Print on Demand. This book examines the Inner Mission of the Church, a movement that emerged in Germany in the 19th century to address urgent social and moral issues of the time. In a similar vein, the author calls on Christian churches to recognize and act upon their social and philanthropic duty, proposing a union of Christian charities and societies to work together for the well-being of the people. The author believes that the Church is tasked with revealing Christ's compassion for humanity, not only through words, but through acts of saving love to heal, comfort, protect, and bless in His name. Written in eloquent prose, this book delves into the practical application of Christian principles to address pressing social challenges and is a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of faith and community engagement. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Discover how faith becomes organized service for the needy.
Renewing the Church examines a historic movement that linked gospel work with social care, uniting Christian churches for a common mission.
From its origins in 19th‑century Germany to its call for practical, council‑driven action, this book explains how the Inner Mission sought to heal society’s wounds by living out charity, wisdom, and unity. It argues for a church that acts as the people’s partner in mercy, with a clear plan to mobilize every member’s gifts for the common good.
- How the Inner Mission emerged from social upheaval and religious reform.
- The push for inter‑church unity and coordinated social action.
- Practical ideas for organizing church work, including local and central councils.
- Ways women’s ministry and church‑based orphan homes fit into a living, charitable church.
Ideal for readers of church history, social reform, and religious ethics seeking a historical model of faith in action.
