Add to basketPaperback. A stolen masterpiece. A dead art dealer. A secret the town has kept for sixty years.Maple Glade is buzzing with excitement. A grand new gallery is opening on the harbour front, and its flamboyant owner has promised to reveal a lost painting by the town's only famous artist, the reclusive Silas Thorne. This is supposed to be the night that finally puts the little coastal town on the map.But instead, the night ends with the art dealer found dead.Mystery writer Jade Reed is drawn to the darkened gallery, where she discovers the body. The prized painting is missing from the wall, and the dead man is holding an old, unusual paintbrush. Everyone in town had a reason to dislike the victim, but someone had a reason to kill him. Jade keeps wondering whether the real question isn't who owns the painting but who actually painted it.Jade and the always-frustrated Inspector Axel Ford follow clues: forget-me-nots, forged signatures, and a lighthouse that stands on the wrong side of the harbour. The case brings them closer to a truth hidden for sixty years-and to each other. But some secrets are hidden for a reason. In Maple Glade, even the prettiest places can hide the darkest secrets. The Missing Masterpiece is the second book in The Maple Glade Mysteries, a cosy series filled with coastal charm, quirky locals, slow-burn romance, and murder. It's perfect for fans of M.C. Beaton, Louise Penny, and Ellie Alexander. This item is printed on demand. The night before Maple Glade's grand gallery opening, Jade Reed receives a mysterious late-night call from the owner, Marcus Blackwood. By morning, Marcus is dead, the town's most valuable painting is gone, and Jade is once again in the wrong place at the wrong time.
But this theft is no ordinary crime. "The Glade by Moonlight" hides a far older secret, one worth killing for. From coded carvings on antique frames to whispers of Nazi-looted art smuggled through coastal waters, every lead pull Jade deeper into a dangerous game played by ruthless treasure hunters.
With her home broken into, her friends drawn into the danger, and her own name appearing in the victim's final appointment book, Jade has two choices: walk away or expose the truth. The only problem? The people hunting the painting have already marked her as a threat.
In a race from quaint seaside streets to wartime shadows, Jade must solve the mystery before the masterpiece, and her life, vanish forever.
Luna Duval is the pen name of a lifelong daydreamer who calls a coastal city home. When she's not lost in fantasy novels, she's writing stories about brave hearts, curious minds, and unexpected adventures.
The Crownless Quest is her debut novel, but far from her last. Luna is currently writing a cozy mystery series called Maple Glade Murder Mysteries, blending quaint village charm with clever whodunits.
Having won a short story prize in her youth, Luna finally found the courage (with a gentle nudge from her mom) to write a full novel in her late thirties. She's living proof that it's never too late to follow a dream, or chase a mischievous sprite into an enchanted forest.
