Hardcover. Most people assume that if something is important, there must be a system protecting it. Ownership, identity, inheritance, benefits, medical decisions, property records, agreements, and authority all depend on that belief. But every day, people discover that records alone are not enough. Families lose access to estates. Veterans fight to prove service-connected claims. Creators struggle to establish ownership of their own work. Businesses and institutions make decisions using records that may be incomplete, outdated, or disconnected from reality. In The Missing Layer, Tobias Risher argues that these failures are symptoms of a deeper infrastructure problem. Modern civilization became highly skilled at recording what happened, but never built equally strong systems for preserving the relationships that allow records to remain reliable as life changes: evidence, authority, ownership, identity, causation, and trust.Through personal experience, family history, business disputes, government systems, creator ownership, artificial intelligence, and the future of verification, Risher reveals why records can survive while meaning disappears, proof can exist while confidence fails, and authority can arrive too late. This is the story of the missing layer modern systems now require: infrastructure that helps people and institutions know whether what was true can still be relied upon. Enigma turns real-world change into governed signals that help systems verify evidence, authority, decisions, and proof before people or software act. This item is printed on demand.
