Paperback. Misa's Sao Jorge Adventures is a heartfelt and beautifully illustrated children's picture book inspired by real-life adventures on the breathtaking Azorean island of Sao Jorge, Portugal. Written and illustrated by Portuguese-American author and Fadista Marisa Silva Rocha, the story follows young Misa as she experiences the magic, surprises, traditions, and unforgettable magical, "frazzly" moments of island life alongside her primos and family. From running away from a touro during a traditional tourada a corda, to getting stung by an agua-viva at Porto das Manadas, freezing through cold island baths, tasting raw lapas, spotting spooky nighttime cagarros, and waiting patiently behind wandering cows on narrow island roads, Misa discovers that the most unexpected moments often become the memories we treasure forever. Filled with vibrant mixed-media style illustrations inspired by the landscapes, culture, traditions, foods, and people of Sao Jorge, this charming story celebrates Portuguese heritage, Azorean identity, family connection, childhood wonder, humor, and resilience. Along the way, readers are introduced to Portuguese vocabulary and cultural traditions through an educational glossary that makes the book both entertaining and enriching for children, families, classrooms, and multicultural libraries. Perfect for ages 5-12, Misa's Sao Jorge Adventures is a warm and whimsical celebration of family roots, cultural storytelling, and the beauty of embracing life's imperfect adventures. Ideal for families, cultural communities, travel-loving readers, educators, and anyone who cherishes stories filled with laughter, saudade, and heart! Misa's Sao Jorge Adventures is a children's book about family, culture, and funny adventures on Sao Jorge Island in the Azores, where Misa learns unexpected moments become treasured memories.
