Danny Brooks was on stage at Threadgills in Austin, Texas, when he sensed that something was very wrong. His arms felt like lead. Thinking was difficult, and his chest hurt. He was having a heart attack.
Brooks should have gone to the hospital, but he was a long way from his home in Ontario and had no health insurance. He chose instead to pray to God for relief and continued with the tour. Over the next six weeks, he played twenty-five gigs in the blazing Texas heat. When he got home, his doctor informed him that he had five completely blocked arteries—and that he needed immediate surgery.
That Brooks had survived for six weeks on the road without treatment is nothing less than a miracle, but the soul singer has some experience with divine intervention, as he revealed in his first book, Miracles for Breakfast: How Faith Helped Me Kick My Addictions.
In this, his second book, Brooks discusses how his beliefs and healthy lifestyle saved his life again, offering his thoughts on faith and diligence, which can help people achieve their goals no matter how many times they fail. And with God, all things are possible!
