Add to basketRoanne lives in the darkness.
In the labyrinth, people exist without words or noise, trying not to provoke the beast down from the mountains. They communicate their fears and uncertainty in sign and whisper—it’s all any of them have ever known. Silence means life, and the dark is a good place to keep secrets.
Roanne has spent seventeen years in the labyrinth, never knowing the outside world.
While hiding from the minotaur, Roanne discovers a small green journal that holds another secret that could change her path. She also realizes her mother and the Oracle of the labyrinth have kept secrets of their own. Will Roanne be brave enough to do what she must?
Or will the minotaur be her undoing after all?
“In Minotaur, Jamieson Wolf takes us to the depths of our consciousness as much as to the depths of the labyrinth. Minotaur is an examination of fear, but also of belonging and community connections under difficult circumstances. Jamieson’s work is deeply psychological and character-centred, bringing these people to life.” —Derek Newman-Stille, creator of Speculating Canada
“Minotaur is an unflinchingly honest, deeply compassionate novel that drew me in and held me until the final page. Jamieson Wolf has a gift for bringing us inside a character’s perspective and showing us their world, with all its flaws and wonders.” —Kate Heartfield, Aurora-winning author of The Valkyrie
“An expertly woven dystopia that exposes a fundamental truth: Even when hopelessly trapped, the desire to be free cannot be contained. The ending will haunt me for a long time.” —Cait Gordon, award-winning author of Season One: Iris and the Crew Tear Through Space!
“A stunning tale of bravery and hope in the shadow of the minotaur. Like Madeline Miller’s Circe, Jamieson Wolf weaves an entire world out of Greek myth, creating moments as soft as a blue glow worm in a jar, yet never fails to confront the savage cut of death, truth and fate. Wolf not only drew me through a thoughtful adventure but makes me ask some hard questions about life. Five stars.” —Melissa Yi, award-winning author of The Shapes of Wrath
“An eerily effective modern myth of life abiding and adapting in a menacing world of darkness and silence.” —Stephen Graham King, author of The Infinite Heist
Jamieson Wolf is a number one bestselling author—he likes to tell people that a lot—and writes in many different genres. He has been fortunate enough to win several awards for his writing, including the Best LGBTQ Book of 2019 from the Love Romance Café for his novel Love and Lemonade. His short story, “The Descent,” was included in the Prix Aurora Award–nominated collection Nothing Without Us. Jamieson is also an artist and has been fortunate enough to have his work hang in the Art Gallery of Ontario.
He lives with spastic cerebral palsy and relapse-remitting multiple sclerosis. Jamieson is a disability advocate who runs a blog called “Two Steps at a Time,” where he writes about what it’s like to live with CP and MS. Jamieson has also written pieces for the Spoonie Authors Network and has spoken on panels about disability and accessibility.
He currently lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, with his husband, Michael, and their cat, Anakin, who they swear has Jedi powers.
