This book is intended to provide an entertaining and informative guide to over 60 of the principal sites that make up the mining region now accordedWorld Heritage status. It encourages the reader to discover these sites for themselves, for there is much to be seen, and the spectacular countryside in which mining activity took place itself often rewards the walk. But the book also allows exploration without the reader moving from their armchair, describing the history of each site through modern and historic photographs, accompanied by an historical overview. Illustrated with over 150 colour photographs, many historic images, and containing maps to guide the visitor to each site, this book is a perfect introduction to a fascinating part of our heritage.
