Paperback. Miniature domestic rabbits of the breed known as the Satin are prized for their supple, shiny hair and compact build. They were established in the United States in the 1990s by breeding Satin rabbits with Mini Rex rabbits, making them a relatively recent breed. The American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) officially recognizes Mini Satin rabbits as a separate breed due to its distinct appearance and sociable nature. The short, dense, and glossy hair of Mini Satin rabbits is one of their most distinguishing characteristics. The breed gets its name from the satiny smoothness of its fur, which appears in a rainbow of hues, from black and blue to chocolate and beyond. The coat is low-maintenance, requiring only occasional brushing, unlike the fur of certain other long-haired rabbit breeds.Mini Satin rabbits range in size from small to medium, depending on the breeder, and always have a compact, well-muscled body. They have a rounded head, small ears, and a short, thick tail, and can weigh anywhere from 3.5 to 5.5 pounds. They have pleasant, alert demeanors and bright, expressive eyes.Due to their outgoing and friendly temperament, Mini Satin rabbits make excellent pets for households with kids or those looking to get a rabbit for the first time. They thrive on communication with people and can develop deep attachments to their caretakers. In addition, rabbits like to get along well with one another, so you can keep them in pairs or small groups as pets.Mini Satin rabbits, like other types of rabbits, need a varied diet that includes hay, fresh produce, water, and a small amount of rabbit pellets. They flourish with frequent physical activity, cerebral stimulation, and a sanitary environment. Mini Satin rabbits, depending on their environment, can live up to 10 years.
