About this Item

Size: 3/4 in. x 1 in. x 1/8 in. (thick), a miniature book-shaped carving, carved from bone or a similiar substance. The spine has been stained a light brown, and with two sets of carved, recessed lines present, and lines cut into the book "edges" to give a rough-edged look. A small, carved meerschaum-type pipe is attached to the front "cover", which has been hand-lettered in ink: Le Lys dans Le Vallee-H. Balzac.
