The exterior is shaped like a book, bound in red morocco leather, with gilt designs on both covers and on the spine. The fore edge is a striker for the matches, and shows some wear. Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Size: 1 3/4 in. x 2 1/2 in. x 3/4 in. (thick) a miniature book-shaped object which is meant to be used as a matchbox or match-safe. A formed sheet of metal acts as the frame; it has been covered with brown leather that has been gilt-stamped with designs found on leather bookbindings; the spine shows four sets of gilt lines, and five repeated designs, the outer "fore-edge" is also covered in gilt leather. The top & bottom edges are open and are lined with cardboard, a small, gray-green paper covered pasteboard tray type box slides out, this originally held small, wooden matches. The "cover" edges show small areas of the leather chipped or worn away. The matches are not present. Seller Inventory # ABE-4092063268
