The 8 Pillars of Starting a Mining Company
By Marcel Nally
Updated for 2025 – The ultimate guide to launching a mining company from scratch, in any country.
What if you could start a mining company with no money, no license, no team—and still succeed?
Marcel Nally did exactly that. Drawing from over a decade of building real mining companies from zero—across Africa, Asia, and beyond—this book lays out the exact 8-pillar system Marcel used to go from an idea to co-founding billion-dollar ventures like Moxico Resources, while helping others unlock opportunities in overlooked jurisdictions.
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, investor, geologist, or consultant, The 8 Pillars of Starting a Mining Company will walk you through:
How to choose the right country and identify mineral potential
Forming a local entity, building trust, and navigating approvals
Securing high-value licenses even before you raise funds
Attracting investors, partners, and dealmakers early
Structuring equity and ownership for growth and control
Managing risk, local politics, and community expectations
Raising capital, even if you’ve never done it before
Closing deals and scaling up, while avoiding fatal early mistakes
This 2025 Edition includes updated examples, modern case studies, geopolitical trends, and new strategies for accessing deals in high-potential mining jurisdictions.
