The #1 Amazon Bestseller!
Featuring a foreword by Steve Ozanich, author of the International Bestseller The Great Pain Deception: Faulty Medical Advice Is Making Us Worse and a contribution from renowned mindbody coach Rebecca Tolin, who has written the inspiring story of how she overcame Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).
The world is facing an unprecedented epidemic of chronic disease. It is a generally recognised fact in the medical community today that psychological stress is a major factor in most chronic illnesses, including heart disease and cancer. Recent scientific findings not only support this hypothesis, they suggest it does not go far enough. Nonetheless, conventional medicine continues to treat disorders like ALS, Alzheimer’s disease, autoimmune diseases, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, chronic pain, food intolerances, Fibromyalgia, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome via physical modalities such as medications, surgery and physiotherapy. As Doctor Gabor Maté has observed, it is now normal to be miserable, alienated and in pain. Albert Einstein said that, ‘Insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.’ Clearly, we have gotten something fundamentally wrong. The world is crying out for a real, lasting solution to the physical, mental and spiritual turmoil of the 21st century.
My story is an extreme example of the problems confronting all of us. After more than a decade of chronic symptoms including pain, digestive issues, food intolerances, brain fog, depression, anxiety and chronic fatigue, I was poleaxed by severe back pain. My other symptoms intensified and multiplied. Five doctors and an osteopath provisionally diagnosed me with autoimmune disease. Ankylosing Spondylitis, Crohn's disease and Celiac disease were the leading suspects. One doctor told me that I was, 'the worst autoimmune patient I have ever seen.' At my worst, I needed a wheelchair to travel more than 200 feet due to chronic hip and back pain. For four months I was unable to eat anything other than 1000 daily calories of mushrooms, almond milk and cucumbers because I reacted terribly to all other foods. I could only sleep in a sun lounger. I had visible ribs and looked like a prisoner of war. With my procedures cancelled due to lockdown, I was left to fend for myself.
In my desperation, I prayed for help. Then I found Healing Back Pain, a book by Dr. John Sarno. Doctor Sarno identified misunderstanding, fear and repressed emotions as the causes of most pain and other symptoms. His advice was to ‘think psychological’ and resume normal activities. Astonishingly, most of his patients made full recoveries, provided they accepted his diagnosis of TMS (The Mindbody Syndrome). In a world of fear, Sarno’s was a rare voice of hope and reassurance. I later encountered the work of Steven Ray Ozanich, Dr. Marc Sopher, Dr. Schubiner, Dr. David Schechter, Georgie Oldfield, Nicole Sachs and others and made a complete recovery with TMS methods.
Now I am fully healed. I do not take any medication, herbs or supplements (except one daily Vitamin D pill). I do not eat a special diet. In fact, I eat a lot of junk food. I can run a 10k, climb mountains, hike 18 miles, and lift weights. This book explains exactly how I did it, and the lessons learned from more than a decade of suffering and recovery. It is the book I wish I had when I was sick and contains insights relevant to anyone suffering from a chronic illness or mental health problem. In this book, questions will be answered and the truth will be revealed.
