Jacket has Minor shelf wear, spine end is slightly dinged, binding tight, pages clean and unmarked. Rupp?s and Townsend?s exhaustive research into the history of the Arkwright Mfg. Co. has resulted in a book that reads like a novel, moving from one decade to another as it delves into the lives of all those responsible for the company?s successes and longevity. The Arkwright Manufacturing Company began by producing cotton thread in the western Rhode Island hinterlands during the American Industrial Revolution. While the majority of New England mills have disappeared or become condominiums, this company is about to celebrate its 190th anniversary. From the moneyed men who ran the financial aspects to the men and women on the shop floor that ran the looms, it took hundreds of hard working individuals to accomplish this. The complete story of how Arkwright survived its unstable early years to become the largest supplier of material used to cover hardbound books in the world at the opening of the last century, then changed direction to become a major supplier of film and paper based products for the reprographics industry, is told here for the first time.…
