Christian Waldschmidt received the Dipl.-Ing. (M.S.E.E.) and the Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D.E.E.) degrees from the University Karlsruhe (TH), Karlsruhe, Germany, in 2001 and 2004, respectively. Since 2004 he has been with Robert Bosch GmbH, in the business units Corporate Research and Chassis Systems. He was heading different research and development teams in microwave engineering, RF-sensing, and automotive radar. In 2013 he returned to academia. He was appointed as the Director of the Institute of Microwave Engineering at University Ulm, Germany, as full professor. The research topics focus on radar and RF-sensing, mm-wave and submillimeter-wave engineering, antennas and antenna arrays, RF and array signal processing. He authored or coauthored over 300 scientific publications and more than 25 patents.
He served as the Chair of the IEEE MTT-29 Technical Committee on Microwave Aerospace Systems and of MTT-27 Technical Committee on Wireless Enabled Automotive and Vehicular Applications. He was a two-time TPC Chair and the General Chair of the IEEE MTT International Conference on Microwaves for Intelligent Mobility. In 2022, he was the General Chair of the German Microwave Conference and in 2023 General Chair of the European Radar Conference (EuRAD). From 2018 to 2022, he served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Microwave Wireless Components Letters. He is a reviewer for multiple IEEE transactions and many IEEE conferences in the field of microwaves. Since 2020, he has been a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and since 2024 member of the National Academy of Science and Engineering.
Christina Bonfert (née Knill) received the B.Sc and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Ulm University in 2013 and 2015, respectively. In 2015, she joined the Insitute of Microwave Engineering at Ulm University, Germany, as a research associate with research focus on radar signal processing for digital radars with OFDM modulation. She received her doctorate in 2022 with the thesis about "Novel MIMO OFDM waveform designs and high-performance signal processing methods for digital radars". Since 2022, she is a postdoctoral research associate at the institute with research focus on radar signal processing and compressed sensing for UAV-based SAR. In 2022, she was the Co-Chair of the European Radar Conference (EuRAD).
Timo Grebner studied electrical engineering at the University of Ulm, where he specialized in microwave engineering and graduated in March 2019. After graduation, he became a research associate at the Institute of Microwave Engineering at the University of Ulm in April 2019. There, he focused his research on the development of high-resolution environmental maps for the automotive sector using a distributed and collaborative radar sensor network. Since 2024, he has taken on the role of systems engineer at Hensoldt, where he continues to contribute his expertise in radar systems and engineering solutions.
