Front and rear cover bottoms bumped, owner's signature, otherwise light wear. Solid hardcover.; "Based on original research findings, this book draws on a wide variety of case studies and takes a new look at the significant role of migration in french society and economy. Immigrants from abroad have contributed substantial numbers to the labour force and have assumed a distinctive, often controversial, role in the life of French regions and cities; equally, migration from countryside to town and city over the past century has been a major factor in the transformation of France from an agricultural and peasant society to a rich, urban and industrial nation." ; 260 pages.
