Dante's allegorical "dark wood" has familiar symbolism to those of us who walk its path through our midlife and older years, especially in religious life. We are still in our prime, but we have passed through many stages in our biological, emotional, and psychological lives, some happy times and some times during which we have wandered in a "dark wood." Likewise, our religious lives have seen much renewal and many adaptations.
