Item description from seller

An informative guide to microscopy, highly illustrated with seventeen plates. Smartly bound in full orange cloth. Illustrated with a frontispiece, sixteen further plates to the rear of the work, and numerous further vignettes in the text, several of which are full page. Collated, complete. This practical microscopy guide explores subjects such as numerical aperture, magnification, methods of illumination, theories of microscopic vision, microscopical accessories, and more, in simple language intended for use by amateurs and medical and laboratory professionals alike. From Edmund Johnson Spitta, president of the Quekett Microscopical Club and the author of a number of similar scientific works, including Photomicrography and An Atlas of Bacteriology. In a full-cloth library binding. Ex-libris copy of the Literary and Philosophical Society, featuring the tipped-in library insert to the front free endpaper and further stamps to the title page, the rear of each plate and periodically throughout. Externally, a smart library binding with minor bumping and rubbing, leading to minor loss of cloth and a few small tears to the spine head and tail. Further fading, marking and creasing to the boards, and the archival markings to the spine. Internally, the hinges have been reinforced with archival tape. Periodical weakness, mainly affecting pages around 192, 208, 240, 336, 368 and 400. Rear endpapers and plate XVI, including the tissue guard, feature a reasonable closed tear. A bright and clean edition with occasional spotting, more so to the first and last few pages. Good.
