A complete facsimile in two volumes, bound by the Wigmore Bindery in full calf in replica of the volume in the Pepys Library. Number 105 of 1,200 copies. A very good copy. Some rubbing to the spines, and a few minor abrasions to the leather. Complete with the original prospectus with a facsimile leaf from the work, and a description of the printing of the volumes. Scarce. Private owner’s bookplate. folio. George Braziller, in association with Magdalene College, Cambridge. 1968. ~ Caxton’s manuscript translation of Ovid’s classic was at some point separated into two halves, in what came to be known as the Pepys and the Phillipps manuscripts. They were reunited in the 1960’s when the Phillipps manuscript (Books I-IX) was discovered and redeemed to Magdalene College. To help finance the reunion of the manuscript, the publisher George Braziller proposed the publication of this facsimile edition.
