Col Susan J. Helms is an American hero with several shuttle missions and five months aboard the international space station. Her life is filled with stories of perfect timing and destined to make an impact on the world. She is a mentor to a few and protege to others. She combines knowledge from each of her mentors and applies it when necessary. Col Helms maintains a positive attitude about life. She never lets obstacles impede her progress. She always found a way around her obstacles. Research collection for this paper was accomplished mainly from the resources of the Air University Library. Books, online database, the Internet, periodicals and data collected by Air University schools provide a wealth of know on mentoring. It was difficult finding information on Helms which was not space related. A telephone interview was the main source of information on Susan Helms' background.
