- 7 volume complete set comprised of 'Personal Narrative of a Pilgramage to Al-Medinah and Meccah' (2 vols); 'A Mission to Gelele, King of Dahome' (2 vols); 'Vikramand the Vampire or Tales of Hindu Devilry' (1 vol); 'First Footsteps in East Africa' (2 vols); - b&w frontispiece portrait of Lady Burton in vol I with colour frontispieces in vols II, VI & VII and b&w in vols III, IV & V all w/ tissue guards, though some are loose - Set contains 3 maps, one of them folding and in colour; plans, 3 being folding, one in color; 17 chromolithographic plates; and 21 b&w plates; all being present and correct - Covers of all vols are rubbed and corners bumped - Spine ends and creased w/ some fraying - Edges of text blocks are toned w/ some foxing - Hinges are breached but not open - Foxing to endpapers, first/final few leaves and tissue guards - Additionally vol V, which contains 'Vikram and the Vampire' is heavily rubbed w/ boards exposed at corners and chipping to spine ends and along both joints, plus the spine is cracked though still strong - Books ow/ solid, clean and bright - a handsome set - xxx/436; xiv/479; xxxvi/209; x/276/3(ads); xxi/256; viii/306 pages.
