The Medicine of the Four Directions: Ancient Signpost Modern Path

Discover the indigenous wisdom that has been hiding in plain sight for over 1,500 years.

What if the answer to modern life's chaos, burnout, anxiety, lost purpose, and ancestral wounding was encoded in a medieval Irish myth? Not borrowed from distant traditions, but rooted in the land beneath your feet?

In the highly anticipated The Medicine of the Four Directions, animist and respected teacher Sam MacLaren unveils a powerful cosmological system from early medieval Ireland that functions as a native British/Irish “medicine wheel”. Drawing from The Settling of the Manor at Tara, this is not another romanticised "Celtic" fantasy, but rather, a rigorously researched, experientially tested framework for healing, transformation, and reclaiming sovereignty in your life.

Inside, you'll discover:

• The West (Knowledge): Heal ancestral patterns, connect with your lineage, and build firm foundations for lasting change

• The North (Battle): Face your shadow self, break addictions, overcome trauma, and emerge tempered and strong

• The East (Prosperity): Manifest new beginnings, practice radical hospitality toward yourself, and learn to truly prosper

• The South (Music & Power): Reclaim your vitality, creativity, and joy; the life force that modern life drains away

• The Centre (Sovereignty): Integrate all directions to achieve inner balance, set boundaries, and step into your power

This book is for you if:

• You're tired of cultural appropriation and want authentic indigenous British/Irish practices

• You struggle with burnout, people-pleasing, or feeling stuck in destructive patterns

• You're seeking practical tools for ancestral healing and spiritual development

• You want animistic practices grounded in scholarship, not new age fantasy

• You're ready to take responsibility for your own healing

Sam MacLaren combines academic rigour (including translations and archaeological evidence) with raw personal honesty; sharing her own battles with addiction, cancer, ADHD, and the Loyal Soldier sub-personality. She doesn't just theorise; she shows you the wheel in motion through real-life, deeply personal transformation.

Includes practical exercises for:

• Ancestral healing rituals

• Vision work and meditation scripts

• Saining (indigenous purification practices)

• Working with native plant allies

This is not a book to read passively. It is a map for navigating life's cycles with clarity and purpose. Whether you are British or Irish by heritage or simply called to this work, The Medicine of the Four Directions offers what generations have been searching for: a proven path back to wholeness that belongs to these lands.

No more need to appropriate other cultures and traditions. Now we can work with our own.

"The wheel will find what needs the deepest healing in you. Be prepared for it to work."
