The book is organized into five thematic sections covering a wide range of topics. Early chapters focus on the integration of neuroimaging with behavioral science, highlighting brain–behavior relationships through cutting-edge imaging modalities and cognitive software. Subsequent sections examine the effects of sedentary lifestyles on brain health, vascular function assessed by ultrasound, and musculoskeletal aging through imaging biomarkers. Additional chapters explore chronic disease management, yoga and cognitive well-being, stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury rehabilitation, and the expanding role of imaging in oncology and systemic diseases. Throughout, the book emphasizes the use of artificial intelligence, radiomics, and multimodal imaging to enhance precision medicine and population health research.
Advances in Medical Imaging: From Behavioral Analysis to Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation offers valuable insights for researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals interested in the applications of medical imaging across multiple disciplines. It highlights imaging’s critical role in advancing personalized care, supporting preventive strategies, and fostering innovation in modern healthcare.
- Highlights the latest advancements in medical imaging technology and techniques

About the Author
Dr. Dilber Uzun Ozsahin is an accomplished Associate Professor in the Medical Diagnostic Imaging Department of the College of Health Science at the University of Sharjah. She serves as the director of the Operational Research Centre in Healthcare at the Near East University since 2020 and is establishing a new research group focused on operational research and integrated artificial intelligence in healthcare at the University of Sharjah.
Assoc. Prof. Ilker Ozsahin is a highly experienced professional in the field of medical imaging, specializing in technologies such as Positron Emission Tomography, Positron Emission Mammography, Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography, and Compton Camera. With a diverse scientific background encompassing high-energy physics, solid-state physics, and medical imaging, he has conducted research across various prestigious institutions worldwide. Ilker's academic pursuits have taken him to the University of Illinois in the USA, where he studied carbon nanotube formation, and to Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona in Spain, where he completed his PhD studies on PET. Additionally, he served as a research assistant at Cukurova University in Turkey for six years while pursuing his PhD. Following the completion of his doctoral degree, he was awarded the International Postdoctoral Research Scholarship by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, enabling him to conduct postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). During this time, he contributed to the development of advanced gamma cameras and image reconstruction algorithms, as well as investigating the impact of general anesthesia on brain function in small animals using functional imaging techniques. Ilker has also worked as a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the University of Macau, focusing on multi-pinhole SPECT collimator design for brain, cardiac, and small animal imaging. Additionally, he has conducted research at CERN for HCAL upgrade studies in the CMS experiment. Currently, Ilker serves as an Associate Professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Near East University and holds the position of visiting fellow at Cornell University.
Leena R David, PhD (Medical Imaging), FHEA (UK), is a faculty member in the Department of Medical Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, and an adjunct faculty member at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, India. She holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in Medical Imaging Technology from Manipal University, India. She also holds an MBA in Healthcare Service Administration and earned her PhD in Medical Imaging from the University of Salford, United Kingdom.
Dr. David has over 14 years of experience in teaching, research, academic advising, and clinical supervision in medical imaging. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence in medical imaging, breast cancer imaging, dental imaging, interprofessional education, osteoporosis imaging, and patient radiation dose monitoring. She has published in leading international journals, presented at global conferences, and served as a reviewer and mentor for numerous research projects.
She has conducted studies exploring factors influencing disease screening and is committed to community outreach and professional engagement that promote the early detection of diseases through medical imaging.
Dr. Suresh Sukumar, PhD (Medical Imaging Technology), is a Professor at the Manipal College of Health Professions, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, India. He has over 17 years of teaching and research experience in the field of Medical Imaging Technology.
Dr. Sukumar is an Expert Member of the Medical Radiology, Imaging & Therapeutic Technology Professional Council under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), Government of India, where he contributes to national policy formulation, competency frameworks, and curriculum standardization for imaging professionals.
He has successfully led one ICMR-funded project as Principal Investigator and contributed to another as Co-Investigator. With over 70 Scopus-indexed publications, his research focuses on sedentary behavior, vascular function, brain volume, cognitive function, and radiation dose reduction in medical imaging.
Dr. Sukumar’s work integrates advanced imaging, physiology, and behavioral research to enhance understanding of vascular-cognitive health. He continues to promote innovation and technology-driven education to elevate healthcare training and practice to global standards.
Berna Uzun graduated from Çukurova University Mathematics Department in 2009. She got her Masters Degree from Çukurova University, Econometrics Department Adana/Turkey in 2015. During her Master study between 2012-2013, she has studied at Lazarski University Economics Department Warsaw/Poland and between 2014-2015 she did internship at University of Autonoma de Barcelona, Barcelona/Spain, as an assistant of institute manager. Her research interest area is mainly on Fuzzy Sets, Fuzzy Markov Chains and its Economic Applications, Operational Research. She joined Near East University, Faculty of Engineering in September 29, 2016 as an instructor.
