IN offering to the Medical Profession - and through them to the Public - this book on the Mineral Waters of France, I have endeavoured to be as concise as possible in order to furnish the busy practitioner With the means of ascertaining at a glance the chemical composition, the therapeutical value, and the geo graphical situation oi the most important French Thermal Stations. I have availed myself of the latest monographs and other writings on the subject in order to bring the information up to date; and if I am unable to name all my French confreres to Whom I am under an obligation, it is partly because they are too numerous, and also because I could not have named them alone Without doing some injustice to the hard working men of the past generation, Who did so much to increase the reputation of our mineral springs.
But there is one name Which I could not omit to mention - it is that of Dr durand-fardel, Who has perhaps done more than all others to elevate hydro therapeutics to the position of a special science. It is almost impossible to open any book on mineral waters.
