Item description from seller

Octavo. 23cm. Publisher's dark blue cloth titled and strikingly decorated in gilt and blind to spine and front board. Lacking Dustjacket. [xxi]; 632pp. A little scuffed to corners, bumped and scuffed to spine ends, strong and handsome; internally clean, illustrated throughout, frontis with tissue guard, top-edge a trifle dusty, fore-edge untrimmed. A very good copy with some minor shelfwear. A dense and at the time well regarded history of every aspect of British mediaeval life from the inner workings of monasteries and pilgrim routes, to trade and commerce under the guild system, and an overview of the Feudal/Ecclesiastical sociopolitical structure up to the 14th century. From the library of Nathaniel Tarn, noted poet, translator, and anthropologist.
