A mixture of imperial units and metric units have been used to familiarize students with both systems of measurement.
Science and history facts, real-life scenarios, and fun trivia have been included to help make learning enjoyable. Don’t be surprised if students want to complete an extra page or two.
This book is designed for students in Year 5 to Year 6 (ages 9-11), but word problems are particularly difficult to assign a grade level to. Word problems require both maths and reading skills to complete. Even students in Year 7 or higher may find this book challenging. Please use the “Look Inside” feature to make sure the questions are a good fit for your student.
Word problems require higher level thinking skills. Students may know how to multiply and divide, but do they know how to use these skills in real-life settings? Being able to read a maths problem and decide if it requires multiplication or division is one skill. Being able to multiply and divide are different skills. All these skills are needed to correctly answer word problems.
Like them or not, standardized tests are a major component of modern educational systems. These tests often use word problems to assess maths skills. Problems of pure arithmetic are increasingly rare. Help familiarize your student with these question types now.
