Print on Demand. This book provides an overview of research efforts to address materials challenges inherent to clean and efficient utilization of fossil fuels. The book begins with a discussion of coal gasification environments and materials degradation mechanisms, including mechanical, chemical, and electrochemical degradation, fracture, and erosion. The author describes ongoing research on the development of advanced materials and coatings to mitigate degradation and extend the service life of critical components within fossil energy systems. Later chapters discuss experimental and modeling efforts to predict materials performance, including creep, fatigue, and corrosion behavior. These findings have broad applications, ranging from high-temperature energy applications to aerospace and automotive industries, in developing materials that can withstand extreme service conditions. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
