Argues that the Black community must return to religious faith and grass-roots political action to restore morality, self-respect, and self-government in the inner cities
From the Author:
A positive look at the moral history of Black America
Many people have written about the suffering and degradation of Black Americans. While my book accurately reflects that reality, my purpose is to remind or inform people about the great faith that sustained Black Americans through their experience of brutal injustice and discrimination and the strength of moral character that resulted from it. I also examine the ways in which many of the policies and programs supposedly designed to help alleviate the consequences of past oppression ignored the Black American moral heritage and undermined moral character.
