About this title
Still, much of Mastering Red Hat 6 is relevant to any Linux user. This is important as the book is intended to be useful to users from beginner to expert level. It's a soundly written and solid tome of around 900 pages which explains Linux usage and configuration in some detail. The approach, however, is dry, lacking in the kind of experiential anecdote which gives a reader confidence. For example, it seems unlikely a new user would be able to set up a working connection to an ISP from the description given in Chapter 22. There's extensive coverage of setting up a Red Hat 6 box as a server for Web pages, files and printers but once again it doesn't read as if the author has much real-world experience and barely touches network card installation issues. For some, a more useful title may be Red Hat 6 Unleashed.--Steve Patient
