A 1969 reprint edition of the 1910 issuance. A collection of nineteen short stories by the great Russian author and social reformer Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910). The title story is the longest, and also probably the best known. Most of the tales were written in the author's later years. With an introduction by Nikolay Andreyev. Everyman's Library catalogue no. 469. --- In Everyman's Library larger format binding style 5. Full red cloth-look paper-covered boards with titling and "Everyman's Library" gilt-stamped on spine, dolphin-and-anchor device borrowed from Aldine Press in gilt at tail of spine; light blue endpapers. In yellow dust jacket variant with Mrs. Victoria Norrington drawing of a brutal winter storm scene to front panel. --- An about-Near Fine copy: bright, tightly-bound and unmarked, though with slightly splayed front board. Price-clipped jacket is in great shape, though with mild chafing to extremities, else intact and wrapped in new removable archival mylar protector.; 12mo - 7 to 7-1/2 in. tall; xii, 320, 8 (ads) pages.
