. 4to., three quarter leather over cloth, approx. 1200 pp. in all, illus. Some wear to extremities of binding; occasional spotting to text leaves. The trowel was published on the 15th of every month. This run comprises all of vol.4 (1865), vol. 5 (1866), and vol. 6 (1867). It contains seven issues from volume 7 (1868), 10 issues of vol. 8 (1869). With the issue of December, 1869, the paper adopts and new numbering system, retaining the old volume number and switching to a continuous issue numbering. What would have been volume 9 (1970) is instead Volume 8, issues 97 through 108. The 1870 issues are complete. The last issue in this run is December, 1870. An interesting collection, including a Lincoln memorial number, many ads and columns of local interest, and some nice specimens of Masonic forms and certificates in one number (8, number 9).
