Print on Demand. This book is a meticulously researched and annotated collection of Luther's sprawling and combative correspondence with his friend, the humanist scholar Erasmus of Rotterdam. The sweeping exchange of letters provides an unparalleled glimpse into the bitter battle over the nature of faith waged between Catholicism and Lutheranism in the tumultuous years following Luther's Ninety-Five Theses. The invective-laden letters document the declining relationship between the two men, as they trade accusations of heresy and false piety. The depth of analysis of the themes of faith and piety makes this collection indispensable reading for scholars of the Reformation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
