Wright, Fifth Thousand, Published by Bela Marsh, Boston, 1861, frontispiece with numerous illustrations, 324 pp, original blind cloth, 8 x 5.25 , 8vo. In fair condition. Soiled boards with numerous stains and splotchiness to covers. Spines and edges faded with rounded corners and worn end bands. Head of spine showing minor loss with cord exposed. Overall tired in appearance. Female ownership dated 1853 on fly leaf. Light offsetting from frontis onto tissue guard. Interior lightly toned, a few small rips to the edges of margins. Some marginalia neatly written throughout. Light age-stain as to be expected. Tissue guards intact. Binding intact. Please see photos. Oft-reprinted work by the abolitionist, anarchist, and suffragist, Henry Clarke Wright (1797-1870) discreetly promoting birth control and women's rights over their bodies, reminding the male readers that "The pleasure of a moment may take a year out of her life; and shall she have no voice, and never be consulted, as to the functions of her body, the emotions of her soul, and the changes which may, by the birth of children, be made in her eternal destiny?"
