You studied marketing. You learned the tools. You built the portfolio.
So why does starting a marketing career still feel so unclear?
Because employers expect more than campaign, content, and social media skills. They need marketers who can understand customers, frame problems, work across teams, use technology wisely, and connect marketing decisions to business results.
Marketing2aT is a practical career guide for marketing students, recent graduates, interns, early-career marketers, and career changers who want to become the kind of marketer every team wants.
Built from more than 130 interviews with executives, founders, hiring managers, and leaders who hire, manage, and promote marketers, the book reveals what employers actually value—and what earns early-career professionals greater trust, responsibility, and opportunity.
You’ll learn how to:
- Build business acumen and understand how a company makes money
- Connect marketing to revenue, margin, cash flow, CAC, LTV, and payback
- Understand customers before recommending tactics
- Turn data into insight and insight into clear recommendations
- Separate correlation from causation and challenge hidden assumptions
- Communicate effectively with executives and cross-functional teams
- Build trust through curiosity, emotional intelligence, integrity, and follow-through
- Use AI and marketing technology without surrendering your judgment
- Turn school projects and early work into visible proof of talent
- Choose experiences that build a purposeful, T-shaped career
Through relatable field stories, 40 practical MOVEs, and guided AI prompts, Marketing2aT helps you apply these lessons in interviews, classrooms, internships, meetings, and first jobs.
Written by a marketing leader who also teaches graduate students, Marketing2aT bridges business and academia—connecting what students learn in the classroom with how marketing decisions are actually made at work.
This is not a book of hacks or empty confidence. It is a guide to becoming deep enough to be useful, broad enough to be trusted, and adaptable enough to keep growing.
The goal is not to help you sound like a marketer. It is to help you become one leaders trust.
