Hooks was a lawyer, Baptist minister, civil rights leader and government official, who served terms as the commissioner of the FCC and executive director of the NAACP. A former professional football player, Kemp [1935-2009] was a long-serving member of U.S. House of Representatives and secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W.
