Map. Engraving with hand coloring. Beautiful Dutch chart of the north Atlantic ocean with rhumb lines radiating from a central compass rose. The title cartouche features an indigenous male with a bow and arrow and a various quadrupeds. Many rivers offshoot from the Saint Lawrence a slight reference to the Great Lakes. Most of the Eastern Seaboard is named 'Nieu Neerland'. Blank verso. Jan Jansson was part of an influential family of map publishers from the Netherlands throughout the 17th century and beyond. They were based in Arnhem then in Amsterdam. They were printers, publishers and booksellers. Major publications were under the joint ownership of the Jansson heirs and their printing empire.
