HUNT, ROBERT. A Manual of Photography, London and Glasgow: Griffin and Co., 1853.Octavo, third edition enlarged, pp. 8 (ads), x, 321, 2 (ads), 15 (Griffin's Scientific Circular dated March 1852), rebound in quarter calf and orange cloth, color frontis, two title pages, the second identifying this book as a volume of Coleridge's Encyclopaedia Metropolitana, engraved illustrations. See Gernsheim's Incunabula of British Photographic Literature, 714, which says this is the third edition of Hunt's 1841 Popular Treatise on the Art of Photography. The Truthful Lens, p. 17, says Hunt, as editor of The Art-Union, "was more than any other individual responsible for the subversion of Talbot's monopoly." William Henry Fox Talbot at that time had a patent on the most significant photographic process to date.Condition of this book:Boards lightly worn with minor loss at head of spine.Leaves tight, age toned, a few small stains. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
