349 pp, with numerous illustrations and extensive index. This 1947 David McKay hardcover edition represents the first major posthumous printing of Emanuel Lasker's classic manual, (originally published in German in 1926, with the first English-language edition following in 1927). The book features updates, corrections, and an introductory Appreciation of Lasker by chess author Fred Reinfeld, and it includes over 300 chess diagrams. With original period dust jacket mostly intact, the book is a key mid-century reference text for collectors of chess history and literature. Minor shelf and handling wear. Head and foot of spine and corners and edges of boards gently bumped/rubbed. Foxing soiling to text block. Significant fading and wear (including soiling, pencil marks, chips, creases, tears, and loss) to dust jacket (see photos); dust jacket is now enclosed in a (removable) protective mylar cover.
