8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. xii, 552 pp with 33 B&W plates and a large foldout map of Manchuria at end of text. Text is clean and tight, library markings from the Rochester Theological Seminary in text and their bookplate on front pastedown. Deckle-edged pages , gilt on top edge. Red cloth boards with gold-stamped titles are lightly bumped at extremities, library markings on lower spine. The book covers the author's journey thru Manchuria in 1903 and is sub-titled " with an historical sketch entitled Prologue to the Crisis." Gives a complete account of the Manchurian frontiers from the earliest days to the growth and final meeting of the Russian and Chinese Empires in the Amur river region.
