Item description from seller

The Making of Victorian Birmingham by Victor Skipp, first published in 1983, in paperback. The cover features a sepia-toned illustration of Birmingham's city centre, after a drawing by H. W. Brewer from The Graphic, 1886, showing the Town Hall and surrounding buildings. This is a sequel to the author's earlier History of Greater Birmingham, covering the town's growth through the Victorian era, including industrial development and the municipal reforms associated with Joseph Chamberlain. The text is illustrated throughout the sample page shown, with photographs and engravings including portraits and political cartoons from the period. The covers show some light wear at the edges and corners, with a crease visible near the spine on the back cover. The spine is intact with the title and author printed clearly. Internally, the paper shown in the sample opening appears clean and the print sharp, with illustrations reproducing well.
