Lillian Robinson spent thirty-one years becoming indispensable.
She knew how to steady the shaking employee, protect the overlooked worker, calm the impossible room, and make other people’s worst days survivable.
Then she retired from human resources, and the world kept turning as if it did not need her.
At sixty-four, Lillian is learning that quiet can be its own kind of grief. When her husband, George, coaxes her into one more Disney trip, Lillian is pulled back into the strange, joyful world of pin trading — a world she once loved and quietly left behind.
Then a small enameled pin finds its way into her hands.
They call it the Magic.
Collectors whisper about it. Strangers recognize it. A man with a museum will pay a fortune for it.
But the pin does not seem interested in being owned.
As Lillian follows its history through a hidden fellowship of traders, keepers, and ordinary people who pass small wonders to strangers in need, she uncovers something impossible: the Magic has been moving for nearly a century — not toward the person who wants it most, but toward the person who needs it next.
And now, somehow, it has chosen her.
Warm, mysterious, and deeply human, The Magic is a novel about unseen kindness, forgotten worth, and the moment one invisible woman finally sees herself.
Perfect for readers who love heartfelt fiction, quiet mysteries, found-family stories, Disney nostalgia, and novels about ordinary people whose lives matter more than they know.
