Paperback. The Magic of Old Maps: Unveiling the World of Cartography invites you into a world where dragons swim in uncharted seas, borders shift with the stroke of a pen, and every coastline tells a story. More than relics of navigation, old maps are time capsules-revealing how people once understood nature, power, exploration, and the unknown. This book explores the artistry and science behind historic cartography, from illuminated medieval mappae mundi to ornate Renaissance portolan charts and the age of empire's meticulously engraved atlases. You'll discover why early mapmakers made "mistakes" that weren't always mistakes at all, how myths and politics shaped what appeared on paper, and the tools and techniques that transformed mapmaking over the centuries.Along the way, The Magic of Old Maps highlights famous map types, iconic symbols and sea monsters, shifting projections, and the quiet craft of measuring a world that was still being discovered. Whether you're a history lover, an art admirer, a traveler at heart, or a curious collector, this journey will change the way you look at maps-and the stories they carry.
