nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - What happens when a determined young woman steps into a man's world-and changes it from the inside out From medical school in the 1960s to decades as a practicing cardiologist in the bustling Kaiser hospitals of Richmond and Oakland, The Magic Bag is the unforgettable memoir of Dr. Ellen Killebrew-one of the first women to break through the male-dominated world of American cardiology. With warmth, wit, and unflinching honesty, Dr. Killebrew takes readers behind the scenes of hospital life, from grueling call schedules and sleepless nights to breathtaking medical advances and high-stakes moments in the cardiac unit. Along the way, she shares poignant, funny, and deeply human stories of the patients who changed her-and the colleagues who shaped a career. But The Magic Bag is more than a personal journey. It's a front-row seat to the transformation of medicine itself: the rise of cardiac care, the shifting expectations of women in white coats, and the hard-won cultural change inside one of the largest healthcare systems in the U.S.Whether you're in medicine, inspired by trailblazing women, or simply love a good story told with heart, humor, and wisdom-you'll find it here. Inside this memoir, you'll discover:¿What it took to survive-and thrive-in medical training as a woman in the 1960s¿Stories from the front lines of cardiology, including life-or-death moments and miraculous recoveries¿The camaraderie, burnout, and resilience of medical teams¿A rare insider's view of how Kaiser Permanente evolved-and what that meant for both doctors and patients¿A rich tapestry of patient encounters that reveal the emotional and ethical depth of medical practice Praise for THE MAGIC BAG'The Magic Bag is the fascinating story of a woman's love affair with medicine. Killebrew's journey as a cardiologist takes us through over half a century of surgical and technological advances, without ever losing the spirit of those humble general practitioners who visited their patients at home armed only with compassion and the contents of their little black bags. This is also an intimate memoir of an ugly duckling who turns into a swan, which makes it fitting that the author's specialty is the human heart.' -William Kotzwinkle, author of E.T. the Extraterrestrial If you're ready to step into the shoes of a pioneering woman physician-and witness a lifetime of courage, care, and change-open The Magic Bag and begin the journey.…
