Two consecutive complete volumes bound separately, each with six monthly issues containing writings in categories Review of Literature (General and Dramatic), British Stage, Original Poetry, Memoranda Dramatica &c, Provincial Drama, Miscellaneous &c. pp(2)/379,V/(2) per volume including single blank preliminary & final leaves. General title-page (with vignette) for each volume, as well as index covering all six issues. Each issue with oval engraved portrait, and title-page incorporating issue contents. Edges of text-blocks yellow. Variable mainly-light offsetting to & from plates. Page of text opposite plate in April 1800 issue quite deeply & extensively toned. Two plates of Vol. VIII with single minor dampstains - at upper outer corner (November) and at upper inner corner (December) - and another plate (October) with tan splash-stain of diameter 2cm towards lower inner corner affecting three lines of text on page 195 opposite, but with no effect on legibilty; in all cases, no plate image or caption affected. One plate (January) of Vol. IX lightly spotted. Pages 8, 9 & 11 of Vol. IX with single tan splash-stains of diameters up to 2.5cm confined to lower margins; more extensive tan splash-stains of variable tones affecting lower margins and lower parts of text on pages 40 & 41, with negligible effect on legibility. Contents of both volumes otherwise here & there faintly toned and/or lightly & sparsely spotted, with occasional isolated spots, and a few creased corners and corner tips. Top edges of text-blocks dust-darkened, fore- & lower edges a little dull in tone and lightly dust- & handling-marked. Uniform near-contemporary quarter calf. Smooth spines with six compartments divided by modestly decorative narrow gilt bands, gilt titles on gilt-bordered red leather labels, and gilt volume numbers. Marbled paper-covered boards with vellum tips at outer corners. Plain endpapers. Spines a little rubbed & chipped, with loss at heads and slight loss at tails. Hinges variably rubbed, with splits of variable lengths. Board surfaces and edges rubbed, edges here & there with paper loss; outer corners a little rubbed, and a little bumped and/or curled. Rear board of Vol. VIII with pasted-down chipped & lightly soiled paper label on which manuscript title. Bindings holding firmly and of decent shelf appearance, contents generally clean and tight.
