Modern Atlas of Ultrasound Regional Anesthesia is a proposed clinical reference designed to help anesthesiologists, anesthesia residents, pain-management specialists, and other qualified healthcare professionals understand and apply ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia techniques. The book focuses on the relationship between ultrasound imaging, anatomical structures, nerve localization, and the safe administration of regional anesthetic procedures.
The central concept is to bridge anatomical knowledge with practical clinical application. By explaining sonoanatomy—the appearance of nerves, muscles, blood vessels, fascia, and surrounding structures on ultrasound—the book aims to help readers interpret ultrasound images and understand how anatomical landmarks guide the placement of regional nerve blocks.
A major theme is the systematic performance of ultrasound-guided procedures. This includes understanding the relevant anatomy, positioning the patient, selecting an appropriate ultrasound approach, identifying target nerves, visualizing the needle, and monitoring the spread of local anesthetic. The emphasis is on developing sound procedural judgment rather than relying on memorized techniques alone.
The book also addresses the importance of patient-specific safety. Factors such as anatomical variation, existing medical conditions, medication considerations, procedural risks, and the patient's clinical circumstances can influence the selection and execution of a nerve block. Safe practice requires appropriate patient assessment, continuous visualization where feasible, recognition of potential complications, and readiness to respond when a procedure does not proceed as expected.
Overall, the book is intended to serve as a practical visual learning resource that connects anatomical principles with modern ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. Its overarching goal is to support informed technique selection, improve anatomical understanding, and reinforce patient-centered procedural safety.
