Item description from seller

8vo. 48 pp. Tipped in is a small newspaper clipping giving the results of an election for Town Council in Barnwell, dated in ink "Oct. 15, '64." Included is a list of victories gained and battles fought "from the commencement of the Revolution to Nov. 1863," plus a summary of events for 1864. A small section is devoted to the siege of Charleston. Price at the bottom of the front wrapper is "$1.25 per copy." An advertisement from the publisher A.E. Miller on the final page appends a note to the public: "It was the intention of the Publishers of 'Miller's Almanac,' for 1865, to have reduced the price, but they find it impossible from the high price of paper and other current expenses, to do so." Early in 1865, Gen. Sherman began his march into South Carolina, and the city of Charleston fell and was evacuated on February 17, 1865. An ink note in this copy underlines the date of Feb. 7, with a single word beside it: "Enemy." Drake 14314 (Duke, Western Reserve Historical Society, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Charleston Library Society). Parrish & Willingham 5625 (adding Georgia). OCLC locates one copy (Free Library of Philadelphia), and several others for the third and fourth editions. The South Caroliniana Library also holds a copy. Very good. Original printed self-wrappers, stitched. (11129).…
