Hardcover, Condition Fair, No Jacket. Spine shows wear, binding is good. FREE SHIPPING within the contiguous U.S. "The Military Annals of Tennessee: Confederate" (1886) is a massive, definitive reference work compiled by John Berrien Lindsley. It is considered one of the most important historical documents for researching Tennessee’s involvement in the Civil War. 1. What the Book is About This is not a narrative history or a novel; it is a monumental collection of records and reports. It was intended to be the first in a series, but no further volumes were ever completed. Regimental Histories: The core of the book consists of detailed sketches of almost every Tennessee Confederate regiment (infantry, cavalry, and artillery). Many of these were written by the officers who commanded them. The "Roll of Honor": It contains extensive "Memorial Rolls" listing the names of soldiers who were killed, died of disease, or were wounded. Military Essays: It features a review of military operations in Tennessee and an essay by General A.P. Stewart on the "Army of Tennessee" as a whole. Portraits: Original editions are famous for their numerous steel-engraved portraits of Tennessee generals and officers. Set during the final years of the Civil War (specifically late 1864), the story follows the Confederate Army of Tennessee as they retreat and then advance back into their home state under General John Bell Hood. The Plot: The narrative centers on the grueling march toward the battles of Franklin and Nashville. Unlike many war novels of the time, it focuses heavily on the emotional toll of soldiers returning to their own ravaged neighborhoods and farms. Characters: Crabb often used a blend of fictional and real historical figures. A recurring "legendary" character in his books is Beasley Nichol, a scout/spy, along with his colorful sidekicks who provide a sense of Southern folklore and humor amidst the tragedy. Style: Crabb was known for his "old-fashioned" and romanticized style. He provides incredibly detailed descriptions of Tennessee’s geography, flora, and even traditional Southern meals, which are hallmarks of his writing. FREE SHIPPING within the contiguous U.S.…
