Item description from seller

Four original watercolours depicting views of the Holy Land, including Jerusalem, Damascus, Antioch, and Tarsus in Cilicia. Each sheet measuring 22.3 x 14.5cm. Each with tile and date in ink to the foot and Biblical reference to the head. The 'Tarsus in Cilicia' image with additional main title to the head: "Memorials of the Travels of St. Paul". The watercolours with some toning and light spotting to the extremities, traces of old mounts to the rear, and the Tarsus in Cilicia image image with a couple of marks affecting the title, are otherwise in good order. An attractive group of four delicately-executed early to mid nineteenth-century watercolours depicting vignette-style views of the Holy Land, as encountered by St. Paul in his travels, very much in the style of book illustrations, although we have been unable to establish whether they were indeed used in a published work.
