About this Item
- 36mo, 4-7/8 inches high by 4 inches wide. Softcover, bound in pictorial white wraps illustrated in black & white on the front cover. The covers are faintly foxed. [27] pages, illustrated with 10 full-paqe plates of Mario Merz's installations, each identified on the facing page. Very good. The Italian artist Mario Merz (1925-2003) was imprisoned under Mussolini's regime for his activities in the anti-fascist Giustizia e Liberta group. He initially experimented with a continuous graphic stroke, not removing his pencil from the paper. Shrugging off the yoke of graphic expressionism, Merz and his contemporaries were at the forefront of a renewal of Italian art. Many of his installations incorporated numbers from the mathematical Fibonacci progression defining growth patterns found in many forms of life. Seller Inventory # 96764
