FIRST UK EDITION. 8vo. 8.75 x 5.75 inches. xxiv + [ii] + 525 pp. Bound in original red cloth, gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear including chips at head and tail of spine. Minor wear to extremities and some foxing of edges; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 16 pages of black and white plates. Comprehensive study of marine salvage, covering its history, techniques, including underwater and state at the time of writing. It describes the salvage of many well known vessels and fleets, such as the German High Seas Fleet scuttled at Scapa Flow in 1919. The author, Joseph Nicholas Gores (1931-2011) was better known as a US mystery writer of novels ands short stories set in the San Francisco area. First published in the US in 1971.
