About the Author

Alfredo G�mez Cerd� naci� en Madrid, en el verano de 1951. Atra�do por la lectura desde la adolescencia, estudi� Filolog�a Espa�ola, especializ�ndose en Literatura. Comenz� escribiendo teatro, g�nero en el que public� y represent� varias de sus obras en los a�os 70. Sin embargo, en los 80 descubri� la literatura infantil y juvenil y pronto conoci� el �xito. Desde entonces ha publicado m�s de setenta t�tulos, varios de ellos traducidos a otros idiomas. G�mez Cerd� ha colaborado en prensa y en revistas especializadas, adem�s de participar en numerosas actividades en torno a la literatura infantil y juvenil, como charlas, libro-f�rum, programas radiof�nicos, mesas redondas, conferencias, etc. Asimismo, ha formado parte de proyectos educativos realizados en Estados Unidos (Aprenda II, en San Antonio, Texas). Sus libros se venden en varios pa�ses de Europa, Am�rica y Asia. Ha escrito adem�s varios guiones para c�mic. Su labor literaria le ha reportado m�s de veinticinco galardones, entre los que se encuentran el segundo premio El Barco de Vapor 1982, el segundo premio Gran Angular de literatura juvenil en 1983, Premio Altea 1984, acc�sit del Premio Lazarillo 1985 y segundo premio de El Barco de Vapor del mismo a�o. En 1987 dos de sus libros ( La casa de verano y Timo Rompebombillas ) fueron incluidos en la Lista de Honor de la CCEI, y desde entonces ha repetido en numerosas ocasiones, casi cada a�o. En 1994 logr� el Premio Il Paese dei Bambini de Italia, y en 1996 fue acc�sit del Premio de novela corta Gabriel Sij�. Se hizo con otro Premio Gran Angular en 2005 por su libro Noche de alacranes . Ese a�o tambi�n logr� el White Raven de Munich. En 2006 fue Premio Fray Luis de Le�n, mientras que en 2008 se hizo con el Premio Ala Delta, el Premio Lector 2008 y el prestigioso Cervantes Chico por el conjunto de su obra. 2009 le trajo de nuevo el White Raven, as� como el Premio Nacional de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil.
